Strengthening Pediatric Palliative Care Collaboration: QSNICH Welcomes Delegation from THAPS, APHN, and HCA Hospice
The Thai Hospice and Palliative Care Society (THAPS), in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN), visited Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health (QSNICH) on 6 August 2026 for a knowledge exchange on Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC). The visit was organized as part of the Pediatric Palliative Care Conference, held on 10–11 August 2026 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. The conference aims to strengthen pediatric palliative care services and promote collaboration among pediatric palliative care professionals across Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region.
As Thailand’s national public children’s hospital, QSNICH was honored to welcome the delegation and share its comprehensive pediatric palliative care model, which is delivered through a multidisciplinary team of pediatricians, child and adolescent psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals. Together, the team provides holistic and family-centered care that addresses the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Srivieng Pairojkul, President of the Thai Hospice and Palliative Care Society (THAPS); Dr. Chong Poh Heng, Medical Director of HCA Hospice, Singapore; and Mr. Cheng Tah Nern, Executive of the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN). The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Worakan Promphan, deputy director of QSNICH, and Dr. Duenpen Horatanaruang, Head of the Department of Palliative Care Medicine, together with members of QSNICH’s multidisciplinary pediatric palliative care team.
The visit provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, sharing of experiences and best practices, and discussions on approaches to further strengthen pediatric palliative care services, including visiting key clinical service units and exploring QSNICH approaches to deliver comprehensive palliative care for children and their families.
Through this collaborative exchange, THAPS, APHN, and QSNICH reaffirmed their shared commitment to improving the quality of life of children with life-limiting conditions and their families across Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region.
