Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between QSNICH and OUGSM/OUH
On March 4th, 2024, a signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health (QSNICH), under the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health, and Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine (OUGSM), Osaka University Hospital (OUH), has been held at Osaka University Hospital (OUH), Japan to strengthen collaboration in four key areas:
Currently, QSNICH has approximately 4,000 cases of pediatric surgeries per year; 10% of cases from the Department of Surgery are performed by minimally invasive surgery (MIS). This procedure primarily targets congenital abdominal and thoracic abnormalities, such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, esophageal atresia, Hirschsprung’s disease, and anorectal malformation. This technique offers surgery to patients by smaller incisions of 2 – 5 mm., causing less post-operative pain, promote faster recovery and less scarring. In addition, MIS can be done safely in newborns with the birth weight as low as 900grams.
QSNICH is recognized as Thailand’s first and primary institution to perform MIS in newborns.
In addition, the collaboration under this MOU also includes precision medicine, maternal and child health, orthopedics, trauma and emergency medicine.
The MOU was signed by Dr. Amporn Benjaponpitak, Director-General of the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health; Dr. Akarathan Jitnuyanont, Director of Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health (QSNICH); Prof. Tetsuo Takehara, Director of Osaka University Hospital (OUH); and Prof. Atsushi Kumanogoh, Dean of Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine (OUGSM).
The ceremony was witnessed by the executives from QSNICH, OUH/OUGSM, and Dr. Sasitorn Sirimaharaj, Director of Chiang Mai Neurological Hospital.
